Hollinger, the Canadian publishing group controlled by Conrad Black, has increased its stake in The Telegraph from 57.9% to 58.2%. On Friday it bought 200,000 shares at 348p and 200,000 at 347p, bringing its holding to 78.8m ordinary shares.

EMAP ‘s interim results announced this morning show pre-tax profit up from £16.6m to £22.2m, with turnover at £234.2m.
EMAP are among five bidders thought to be left in the race to take over Maclean Hunter European Publishing (publishers of BRAD) from Rogers Communications, which itself is taking over Canadian parent company, Maclean Hunter.It is claimed that up to 25 bids were made. Others remaining on the short list include Bertelsmann and Pearson.
