The 1997 industry census of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) shows that there were 12,700 people at 206 IPA member agencies at the end of 1997, a small decrease compared to the previous year. The survey also showed that 82% of all agency staff are under the age of 40.
The Independent Television Commission has revealed that ad revenues have increased sharply for satellite and cable channels. For all broadcasters, advertising remains the biggest source of income, accounting for 50% of the total commercial revenue.
