Granada has announced an interest in expanding in cable. It is developing low cost television channels, which would exploit the company’s existing productio capacity. The new media restrictions prevent Granada owning any more broadcasting licences. Cable possibilities Granada is looking at include a programme library channel, soap opera channels and children’s channels.

Granada’s takeover of LWT paid off financially in the 6-months to April, Granada have announced today, with pre-tax profits up by 50% to £154.5m. Granada television profits were £36.6m compared to £29.9m in the previous year and LWT’s profits were £35.3m.
