12Snap Rolls Out McDonald’s Popstars Promotion

12Snap is today launching a nationwide mobile marketing campaign to promote McDonald’s sponsorship of ITV’s Popstars: The Rivals series.

The Pop & Txt promotion will run for four weeks in 1,200 McDonald’s restaurants across the country and will build on the success of the previous Txt A Monster campaign which took place earlier this year (see 12Snap Launches Monster SMS Campaign).

The promotion will see medium, large and supersize drink cups contain a special “pop and roll” section, revealing a number that participants can text to find out if they have won a Popstars: The Rivals prize. Those taking part the competition will be opted-in to a database and will receive daily SMS updates on the show.

The campaign will be supported by TV ads and in-store point of purchase material, including posters, till toppers and tray liners.

Anne de Kerckhove, managing director of 12Snap, said: “This campaign will be one of the highest-profile mobile marketing promotions of the year. It is year further evidence of McDonald’s commitment to mobile as a highly effective marketing medium.”

The latest figures from the Mobile Data Association show that around 2 million person to person text messages were sent each hour during September bringing the monthly total to an all time high of £1.43bn (see 2 Million Text Messages Sent Each Hour During September).
