A peak of 4.1 million ABC1 Men (a 75% share of the audience) tuned in to the coverage on ITV1 on Saturday evening, with an average of 3.1 million ABC1 Men (a 64.5% share) staying with it throughout its two and a half hour duration.

A peak of 14.1 million adults watched the game, a 58.3% share of the audience.

On Friday, it was the play-off for the third and fourth places, with host nation France lining up against one of the teams of the tournament, Argentina.

Argentina played some marvelous stuff and set about the French from the word go. In the end it was no surprise that France lost 10-34, with their World Cup adventure coming to an ignominious end.

A peak of 1.4 million ABC1 Men (a 29.6% share) watched the action on ITV1, with an average of 934,000 staying tuned for the duration of the evening’s coverage.
