TVii, Nintendo’s delayed social media TV experience, has finally launched in the US over a month after the launch of the Japanese company’s next-generation console, the Wii U.
The application, which uses the console’s unique GamePad as a second screen, aims to bring streaming, live TV and social interaction under one easy to use experience. When watching linear TV or streamed programming, the system pulls data from the internet and displays trivia, cast information and other relevant content.
Sport content in particular has been embraced by the second screen. Users can scroll back and forth through the game while the main screens displays the live action. Team stats, formations and individual player information can be accessed through the GamePad.
While there are some DVR limitations on the initial release, full functionality is expected soon.
Amazon Instant, Hulu and Netlfix went live on the new system at the end of November. Details for the European version of Nintendo TVii have yet to be finalised.
