According to a new research forecast from eMarketer, Twitter’s ad revenue will near the $1 billion mark in 2014, almost double the current figure.

More than half of Twitter’s ad revenue this year – which eMarketer predicts will be around $582.8 million – will come from mobile ads ($308.9 million), in comparison to 2011 in which mobile advertising brought virtually no money to Twitter’s ad revenue.

The majority of the social media giant’s ad revenue is expected to come from the US, however it is predicted that by 2015, Twitter’s continued expansion of foreign sales operations will help non-US ad revenue surpass the $300 million mark – over three times the figure this year, which sits at just under $100 million.

By that time, the total ad revenue is expected to reach $1.33 billion, with mobile advertising responsible for 60% of the total figure.

eMarketer said: “The upward revision comes as advertisers have shown more interest in spending money on mobile advertisements on Twitter, and as recent audience figures from multiple research sources analysed by eMarketer have suggested Twitter’s reach is improving.”
