Walker Media Uses Talk Radio For First C5 Campaign
In its first campaign for Channel 5, ad agency Walker Media has chosen to use Talk Radio’s new London Macro package to promote the channel’s increased signal power. This will make C5 the first advertiser to use London Macro which officially launched on Monday.
Channel 5 is to publicise the improved picture quality it can now deliver since boosting its London signal from the Croydon transmitter (see C5 Gives Itself A Boost).
Talk Radio’s sales director, Tim Bleakley, says: “This is the first campaign that Walker Media is doing for Channel 5… they wanted an innovative use of media, and London Macro gives them exactly what they need. We expect Talk Radio’s new London Macro to continue being successful in giving advertisers exactly what they need.”
Talk Radio is about to be taken over by TalkCo, a consortium led by Kelvin MacKenzie and backed by News International and venture capitalist MVI (see MacKenzie Closes In On Talk). MVI already holds a 35% stake in Talk. It is understood that a deal is close to being struck but that there may still be some wrangles between TalkCo and sellers CLT-ufa over the final price.
MacKenzie’s original offer of £25 million is believed to have been increased to £27 million. However, CLT-ufa was looking at a price of £35 million or more. A management buy-out, led by station MD Paul Robinson and backed by United News & Media and the Guardian Media Group, pulled out of negotiations in July when the bid was raised by TalkCo.
