Newsline: new look, new voices

Newsline: new look, new voices

Welcome to our new-look Newsline. As you’ve no doubt noticed, it’s quite a departure and we hope you find it simple and intuitive to navigate.

MediaTel has been providing readers with industry opinion, analysis and news content for over twenty years now, but we hope that we have always taken on board your comments and that recent feedback is well reflected in the new design and structure.

Fresh voices

Since taking over as editor late last year, I have been busy sourcing new contributors, speaking with readers and noting your comments, as well as working with our excellent existing contributors to ensure we’ve remained interesting and focused.

We are very honoured to host Raymond Snoddy’s only weekly column and we know he remains a must-read for very many of you; and Dominic Mills started writing for us just as I joined. Unsurprisingly he has also developed a large following.

These are two of the very best and most knowledgeable media commentators. So now I am very pleased to announce two new regular contributors, who will do even more to establish MediaTel Newsline as your first choice for industry opinion.

Firstly, Torin Douglas, who recently left BBC News after 25 years as its media correspondent. Torin will be hosting a new monthly video feature, sponsored by Sky IQ, interviewing some of the biggest advertisers in the business.

The Torin Douglas Interview will launch in late October and will be something of a full circle for the journalist, who was a Campaign writer in his early career.

We are also delighted to welcome Bob Wootton, director of media and advertising at ISBA, who will pen a monthly column for MediaTel – launching on October 8th.

Bob is rarely short of an opinion, and having spent 15 years representing advertisers for ISBA and, before that, 20 years media buying for leading London agencies, I can assure you you’re in for a treat.

What else is new?

The new site has been designed to look and work in a more user friendly manner. You’ll notice a simple, clean hierarchy, with the day’s leading stories located at the top in the revolving carousel, and then – either by scrolling down the page, or using the tabs at the top – the week’s opinion, daily industry news and our extensive library of data analysis.

We have also added a new section linking you to our Connected Consumer stories towards the bottom of the page, and have given the popular TV Overnights column its own section on the right-hand side – and MediaTel subscribers can access some added information beneath this.

The search function is also now open to everyone and gives readers access to thousands of useful articles.

The redesign doesn’t stop here, however. We have more features to roll out over the next couple of months to help you use the platform as a valuable research and business tool, as well as simply being a good read.

Feedback

Effective digital design is an ever-evolving process and as we work to incorporate the latest technologies and make our content easy to access, we will rely on you to help us along the way.

Let me know what you think; what works, what could be improved – and let me know if we are covering and giving voice to what you think is important.
