Whitelaw Upset By Broadcast Bias Clause

The Broadcasting Bill’s amendment on impartiality was criticised by Lord Whitelaw yesterday as being “profoundly disturbing and very upsetting”. Speaking at a lobby meeting held by senior broadcasters last night he added his voice to those of other Tory peers, and broadcast industry representatives. Protest has been so strong it is thought that the Home Office may back down on the issue. A full debate in the House Of Lords is scheduled for this evening.
