Emap Releases Publishing Statement For Bliss

Emap has issued a publishing statement for its teenage title, Bliss, after claiming that the latest ABC figures failed to reflect the impact of its relaunch in April.
According to Emap, the circulation of Bliss for January to June 2002 stands at 267,553, compared with ABC’s figure of 250,370 for the same period, which represents a 1.9% year on year decline in circulation.
Bliss relaunched in A5 format earlier this year (see Bliss To Relaunch With A5 Format), hoping to emulate the success of Condé Nast’s Glamour. According to Emap, the relaunched magazine has also attracted new advertisers including; Ralph Lauren, Hennes, Benetton, Tammy and Billabong.
Rory Bett, director of youth magazines at Emap Advertising, commented; “The response to the new look magazine has been fantastic. Over the past six months we have attracted a number of new advertisers illustrating that they are hungry for innovation. With Bliss they have found a genuine point of difference in the market.”
Helen Johnston, editor of Bliss magazine, added: “To survive in this volatile and cyclical sector, publishers have to be prepared for constant innovation. Teenager’s expectations are changing faster than ever and so we are delighted at their response to our developments. The latest sales clearly illustrate that our audience have fully embraced the new look Bliss.”
The Audit Bureau Of Circulation recently re-issued figures for 14 of Emap’s consumer magazines following the publisher’s infringement of the complex rules that separate paid-for bulk copies from those circulated free (see ABC To Re-Issue Circulation Figures Across Emap Titles).
