Flytxt Gives Miss World Global Text Appeal

Mobile marketing company Flytxt is launching the world’s first ever global SMS text voting campaign for this year’s Miss World event.

Miss World, which has this year been shunned by UK commercial broadcasters, is inviting viewers across 130 countries to vote for their favourite beauty queen via mobile phone.

Each of the contestants will appear on the Miss World website and viewers will be encouraged to cast their votes via text message for the chance to win a trip to Miss World 2003, which will be held in China.

The text vote will account for half of the total votes in deciding the final winner of the competition and marks the first time that the audience has been invited to influence the outcome of the event, which will be screened globally on 28 November.

Flytxt, which is implementing the competition in association with Regenerator, has secured a three year deal with Miss World to operate a text campaign for the 2003 and 2004 finals.

Commenting on the initiative, Lars Becker, CEO of Flytxt, said: “This is the most ambitious project that the wireless sector has undertaken to date and we are incredibly excited about being one of the companies that is helping to make this happen.”

The latest figures from the Mobile Data Association show that around 2 million person to person text messages were sent each hour during September bringing the monthly total to an all time high of £1.43bn (see 12Snap Rolls Out McDonald’s Popstars Promotion).
