Radio 4 long-wave fans may have won their battle to prevent the BBC from replacing it with a 24-hour news service, a move which has caused much protest and anger from those who argue that they cannot receive the station on FM (Newsline 29/9).
The Corporation is now launching an inquiry which will examine potential problems suffered by the loss, looking into coverage, reception and inter- ference on FM in different parts of the country. Findings from the inquiry will be reported in September when a decision will have to be reached regarding the frequency’s future.
