Telegraph Launches Short Breaks Promo To Boost Sales

The Telegraph is attempting to drive circulation with the launch of its annual short breaks promotion, which offers readers cut-price accommodation at more than 350 hotels across the country.
The promotion began on Saturday with a special 24-page tabloid supplement listing the available hotels and discounts. Readers wishing to take part in the promotion must collect five tokens, which will appear in the paper until Sunday 21 September.
The initiative was launched with a 30-second radio advertisement, starring John Sessions, which aired nationally over the weekend. There will also be point of sale promotions in newsagents across the country.
Mark Dixon, marketing director at Telegraph Group Limited, said: “Short breaks is one of the Telegraph‘s most successful and longstanding promotions. Our readers are passionate about travel so we are delighted to be able to offer them such fantastic hotel discounts yet again.”
The latest ABC circulation figures for the six months to August 2003 show that the Daily Telegraph saw its circulation decline by 7.9% year on year to 924,555, down from 1,003,697 in the same period the previous year.
The title has seen circulation dip after ending the practice of bulk sampling, which is used by other national newspapers to supplement their news-stand sales (see Telegraph Group Puts An End To Bulk Sales).
