Capital Bolsters National Sales With New Appointments

Capital Radio is continuing the restructure of its national sales operations in London with two senior appointments in its recently created group sales and brand sales divisions.

Last week Capital’s recently appointed managing director of national sales in London, Linda Grant (see Capital Appoints Grant To Head National Ad Sales), unveiled the blueprint for the group’s new commercial division, which has been restructured to provide greater customer focus and more emphasis on selling the group’s portfolio of brands (see Capital Unveils Newly Restructured Commercial Division).

As part of the shake-up, former interactive sales manager, Anna Pennington, has been appointed to the role of head of sponsorship, promotions and interactive in the group sales department. She will work alongside head of group sales, Nick Hewat to sell airtime, sponsorship, promotions and interactive opportunities across Capital Radio’s entire portfolio of brands, stations and properties.

Meanwhile in the brand sales department, former agency sales manager, Emily Sutherland, will become head of brand sales for the Capital Gold Network, Century FM Network, Xfm and Choice FM. She will work alongside the other head of brand sales, Alison Finch, who looks after the Newslink and the Hit 40 UK networked properties.

Both Pennington and Finch will report to the newly appointed brand sales director, Mike Hope-Milne.

Capital is also searching for a creative development head to work alongside head of commercial marketing, Juliet Browse and head of research, Oliver Rowe. All three will report to a new commercial marketing director, who is yet to be appointed.

Earlier this month Capital Radio revealed a 15.5% drop in pre-tax profits for the six months to March and announced that advertising is expected to remain under pressure for the rest of the year (see London’s Leading Radio Station Sees Ad Revenue Decline).

However, the latest figures from the RAB brought more positive news to the commercial radio market as a whole, by showing that advertising expenditure rise to record levels, with £138.9 million being spent on the medium in the first three months of this year (see Commercial Radio Sees Highest Ever First Quarter Adspend).
