Future To Connect Readers With New Dating Magazine

Future Publishing is expanding its portfolio with the launch of a new dating magazine, entitled Connect, which will be produced in association with DatingDirect.com.

The new quarterly title, which launches on the 24 September, reflects the growth in the online dating scene and is targeted at women in their thirties seeking a permanent relationship.

The magazine will have a cover price of £1.80 and an initial print-run of 150,000. Future is confident the new title will be a success and has drawn on research which reveals there are currently 11 million single adults in the UK, a figure which is set to increase to 16 million by 2010.

Connect will be supported by its own dedicated website, www.connect-mag.com, which will provide access to dating direct’s 875,000 UK members.

Commenting on the launch, Lynda Burgess, managing editor of Connect, said: “Online dating has really gained foothold with the mainstream consumer, it is a buoyant market that has taken off dramatically in the past few years. Dating someone over the internet is ideal for everyone – it’s instant, relatively inexpensive and a successful way to meet a future partner.”

Darren Richards, founder of DatingDirect.com, added: “We are excited to have partnered with Future Publishing for the launch of Connect Magazine. The first dating publication of its kind, the magazine will be satisfying a clear gap in the market. From my experience of the UK online dating market, singles will be clamouring to get their hands on what will be must-have manual for successful dating online.”

The launch will be supported by a targeted ad campaign across Future Publishing’s entire magazine portfolio, as well via extensive point-of-sale promotions.

Dating Direct has also struck revenue-sharing deals with Emap to provide the online version of its New Woman magazine with access to its dating database (see Dating Direct Scores Revenue Sharing Deals With Emap).
