Telewest Drops Broadband Price To Lowest In Market

Telewest has fired the latest salvo in the battle for cut-price broadband customers by dropping the price of its entry-level package to £12.99 per month, making it the cheapest option for those wanting high-speed internet access.

The package will be made available to customers signing up to the company’s Talk Unlimited telephone package throughout June, with the reduced rate for broadband access applying for the first year of use. The deal will also give new customers free installation, an incentive which Telewest claims will save customers £110.

Commenting on the latest move towards budget broadband, Chad Raube, director of internet at Telewest, said: “This summer sizzler of a deal is a perfect way to experience the benefits of blueyonder broadband without having to shell out an arm and a leg for a faster connection.”

He added: “We’re offering broadband internet at a better price than dial-up internet packages from the likes of BT and AOL and showcasing the benefits of the bundle by combining a great value-for-money phone package with the lowest priced broadband internet access in the UK today.”

The move comes just weeks after Telewest announced a milestone 500,000th broadband customer had signed up to its service, although the company still trails behind rival firms such as NTL, which announced earlier this year that it had secured its one millionth broadband customer (see NTL Announces One Million UK Broadband Homes).

In addition to cutting prices, a furious battle for long distance broadband users has erupted in recent months, with BT announcing the creation of both satellite broadband services and trials of long distance cabling to extend the reach of its current network to more rural and remote areas of the country (see BT Launches Satellite Broadband To Boost Rural Up-Take).
