The Wireless Group (TWG) has announced the first managerial appointments for its new all speech radio station, Talk 107, due to launch in Edinburgh next year.
Peter Gillespie has been appointed as station director, bringing extensive experience with him after working at various radio stations, including working on the launch of Classic FM and Scotland’s first new radio franchise in 20 years, Scot FM.
Commenting on the appointment, Calum Macaulay, launch director of Talk 107 said: “Peter has the experience we’re looking for. He understands radio and radio launches and combines this with the fact that he understands the difficulties facing anyone launching a new business venture. He will be pivotal to the success of the new station.”
TWG also revealed that Colin Paterson will be joining the station as programme director. Paterson recently led his current station, 96.6 TFM to win the 2005 CRCA Commercial Radio Station of the Year award, as well as a New York Radio Festival Award for investigative news.
Macaulay added: “We were disappointed to lose Colin from the group when he moved to Emap three years ago. He is a rising star in commercial radio and understands exactly how we intend to run the Edinburgh speech station. He’s an old head on a young pair of shoulders and will bring the required energy, enthusiasm and passion to the station.”
Patterson said: “I’ve enjoyed every minute of my career in commercial music radio so far but this is a massive job. It’s different and exciting and I share TWG’s vision to create a network of local speech radio stations across the UK.”
TWG won the last remaining FM licence at the end of last year, giving the company a potential adult audience of around 940,000 covering the city of Edinburgh and the area surrounding the Firth of Forth (see Wireless Group Scoops Edinburgh Radio Licence).
