Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One once again proved more popular than ITV1’s The X Factor, being watched by more adult viewers for both the main programme and the results programme on Saturday night.
The first instalment of the ballroom dancing contest was seen by an average of 8.4 million adults, a 43% audience share, whilst its results programme took 7.9 million, a 36% share. The X Factor managed 8.1 million for its first show, a 39% viewing share, whilst its second programme took 6.9 million, a 31.7% share.
Robin Hood also performed well for BBC One, taking around 5.9 million adult viewers on average (23.7%), whilst All Star Family Fortunes on ITV1 was seen by an average of just over five million adults, a 31.7% share between 8pm and 9pm.
Sunday night saw strong viewing figures for ITV1, with the triple bill of Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Heartbeat performing well for the broadcaster. The soaps were watched by 7.4 million and 9.3 million respectively, a 35% and 42% viewing share, whilst the rural police drama was seen by 8.7 million, 37%.
Midsomer Murders followed, taking over a million more adult viewers on average than BBC One’s Planet Earth. ITV1 lured 7.1 million adults on average, a 32.6% audience share, whilst the never before seen footage of lions hunting elephants was watched by around six million, giving BBC One a 25% viewing share.
