Almost Four Billion Texts Sent In October

Text Message Almost four billion text messages were sent in the UK during October, up 100 million more than in September, according to the latest figures from the Mobile Data Association (MDA).

During October, 3.8 billion text messages were sent, which was up almost 27% on the total for October 2005. Each month sees more and more text messages sent, with September seeing over 3.7 billion messages sent during the month (see Record Breaking September For Text Messages).

In the run up to Christmas, as well as voting for celebrity and reality show contestants, British texters are likely to use the medium for other activities. For example, supermarket Waitrose is offering text messaging ingredients to mobiles for Christmas recipes, which can be used as a reminder whilst out shopping.

For the past seven years, the MDA’s messaging website, www.text.it, has witnessed text messaging grow exponentially.
