The Independent Scraps Media Section In Favour Of New Sports Supplement

The Independent The Independent has scrapped its stand-alone media supplement, replacing it with a new 24-page sports pull-out section today.

The media section has moved into the main paper behind the business section, with similar features but less space, while yesterdays’ Independent on Sunday reduced its media coverage to just one page.

The only stand-alone media supplement in the national press now is the Media Guardian on a Monday.

Meanwhile, The Independent has focused on the launch of its new full-colour sports supplement, which promises “big names, the best writers and all the action”.

The new section features a number of reviews of the weekends’ football, a ‘championship fan zone’ and football results tables.

‘Monday Sport’ also covers rugby union, rugby league, racing, golf, a Brian Viner interview, a section of ‘fixtures for the week ahead’, Dom Joly’s ‘weird world of sport’ and a review of Strictly Come Dancing.

However, the new supplement only features one paid-for advert, for Concept2’s indoor rower.
