Channel Five’s UEFA Cup Proves To Be A Winner

Five Logo Channel five’s coverage of the Live UEFA Cup Football proved to be a winner last night, attracting a peak of over 2.4 million viewers.

The channel raced ahead of its rivals ITV1, Channel 4 and BBC Two during the 9pm to 10pm peak time slot, as viewers tuned it to see Aston Villa beat Ajax 2-1, securing an average 9.4% audience share.

BBC One was the only channel to top the football between 9pm and 10pm, with Silent Witness picking up almost six million peak viewers and an average 25% audience share.

BBC Two’s popular Never Mind the Buzzcocks pulled in 2.1 million viewers at 9pm, while Beautiful People slipped to just over one million at 9.30pm.

Meanwhile, Channel 4’s new documentary Mum, Heroin and Me attracted slightly more viewers than its rival documentary on ITV1, Real Crime: Death of a Hostess, about the murder of Lucie Blackman in 2001.
