The IPA is set to appoint the vice-chairman of Ogilvy Group UK, Rory Sutherland, as its next president.
Sutherland’s nomination is expected to take place at the IPA council meeting on Thursday, before he officially starts in the role following the trade body’s annual meeting next April.
His forthcoming appointment will put an end the IPA committee’s three month search for the right candidate to replace the current president and M&C Saatchi chief Moray MacLennan.
According to reports, the IPA have experienced difficulties in getting potential candidates to commit time to the job during the current economic climate.
Sutherland, who joined OgilvyOne in 1988 and has recently been given a high-profile ambassadorial role, will be the first IPA president to come from a direct marketing background.
