BSkyB’s has made its new online video service Sky Player TV cheaper than its satellite TV packages.
The broadcaster’s online service offers users a choice of three packages ranging from £15 to £34 a month, while Sky’s cheapest satellite TV package is £17 a month.
Sky’s Entertainment Pack, which will be available at the cheaper monthly rate of £7.50 until the end of January as part of a promotional start-up discount, includes the Disney Channel, British Eurosport and Sky News.
Sky Sports News and the National Geographic channel also feature as part of the package, with MTV One, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr being added later this month.
The second subscription option, which includes Sky Sports 1, costs £26 per month – Sky’s cheapest satellite TV package including Sky Sports 1 is £28.
The third option, which bundles together entertainment and sports channels, will cost viewers £30 in the introductory period and £34 after, while Sky’s similar satellite TV package costs £36.
Mike Darcey, chief operating officer at BSkyB, said: “Sky Player TV recognises that for some, the computer screen is now the preferred screen through which to watch TV.
“In developing a standalone subscription to a secure online platform, we are responding to the diverse needs of today’s consumers,” he added.
