ABC Results Jul-Dec 2007:Glamour On Top Of Women’s Monthly Sector

Women's Magazines Conde Nast’s handbag sized women’s monthly Glamour remained the top title in the sector in the latest ABC release, for July to December 2007, although it suffered a year on year fall of 6.5%.

It now has a circulation of just over 550,000 copies, well in front of the second place women’s monthly, Good Housekeeping.

Good Housekeeping remained relatively static year on year, although it was up around 6.5% period on period to give it a total of around 464,000 copies.

It was only just ahead of Cosmoplitan, which recorded both a year on year and period on period rise, of around 1% and 2% respectively. Its circulation now stands at more than 460,000.

Yours, which was acquired by Bauer Consumer Media when it bought Emap’s magazine division (see Media In The City: Emap Sells Magazine And Radio Arms To H Bauer), suffered a relatively large decline in its circulation, down around 15% year on year to leave its total at just over 327,000.

H Bauer’s Spirit & Destiny also recorded a downturn in its circulation for the six month period, falling almost 16% year on year to just over than 67,000.

There was a healthy year on year increase for IPC Media’s Essentials, up around 30% to more than 94,000 copies.

Marie Claire, also published by IPC Media, saw a small fall in its total, of around 1.5% year on year, to leave it with a figure of 330,000 copies.

Hachette Filipacchi’s Psychologies now has a circulation of over 140,000 readers following year on year growth of 21.5%.

It was a good period for woman&home too, as it added almost 20,000 copies to its total, to take it to an impressive 336,000.

The NatMags title She posted an impressive circulation boost as well, with a 16% increase taking it to around 176,000.

However, fortnightly mag More, another of the titles which Bauer acquired from Emap, had a pretty hard time of it, with a downturn of around 26.5% leaving its circulation at just over 200,000 copies.

Last week, Bauer Consumer Media suspended its women’s monthly magazine NW and weekly title First from publication (see NewsLine).

The company said it would enter into a month-long period of consultation with editorial staff. The decision will affect 49 editorial staff in total, with 30 on First and 19 on NW.
