Barcelona v Chelsea scores 8m viewers

Football ITV1’s live UEFA Champions League coverage attracted a high of almost 8 million viewers last night, securing the peak audience throughout most of the all-important 9pm to 10pm slot.

More than 6.3 million average viewers (a 27.8% share) tuned in to see the Barcelona v Chelsea goalless draw – the first time Barcelona have failed to score at home this year – between 7.30pm and 10pm.

However, the end of BBC One’s drama All the Small Things, with Sarah Lancashire and Neil Pearson, won over the peak audience during the last fifteen minutes with a high of 4.5 million viewers.

The penultimate episode in the six-part choir series attracted 4.1 million average viewers and a 17.1% audience share during the 9pm to 10pm peak slot.

At the same time, Five’s ever-popular CSI: Crime Scene Investigation pulled in over 2.5 million peak viewers and a 10.1% share, putting it ahead of Channel 4 and BBC Two during the peak-hour.

Channel 4’s new documentary, chronicling the lives of six children growing up with disabilities – Born to Be Different: Turning Eight – picked up 1.8 million viewers, while BBC Two’s new Cruickshank on Kew: The Garden That Changed the World attracted 1.6 million average viewers.

Earlier on in the evening, BBC One’s Eastenders banked the overall highest ratings with 7.6 million peak viewers and a 35.9% average audience share between 7.30pm and 8pm.
