Condé Nast Traveller has launched a series of iPhone app city guides in a bid to tap in to the UK mobile market.
The publisher worked with digital development company Acrossair to create the apps, which cover Rome, New York, Barcelona and Paris, incorporating GPS with augmented reality, specially commissioned comment pieces on each city as well as automatic seasonal updates.
Condé Nast Digital Britain’s country manager, Emanuela Pignataro, said: “We’re delighted to enter the UK market with our specially purposed guides, offering editorial uniquely commissioned for these City Guide Apps.
“Reflecting the brand values of the magazine, this is a natural extension for audiences that are connected, media savvy and want to arrive in a city armed with all the knowledge they need to make the most of their time there, as if they were a local.”
The ad-free apps will be available from iTunes later this month, priced at £5.99. The publisher has launched a preview of the apps on cntraveller.com/iphone.
Condé Nast’s city guides will compete with Lonely Planet’s 20 city guide apps, which cover places including London, New York and Dubai. BBC Worldwide launched the apps last year, priced at £9.49. However, the travel publisher has dropped the cost of each app to £3.49 now.
