Google TV confirmed for early 2012 at MGEITF

Eric Schmidt
Speaking at the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, confirmed that Google TV was going to be rolled out in Europe in early 2012.

Making the announcement within his MacTaggart lecture, it confirmed industry mutterings and musings that the launch was going to be imminent.

Speaking to the festival audience, Schmidt said: “Some in the US feared we aimed to compete with broadcasters or content creators. Actually our intent is the opposite. We seek to support the content industry by providing an open platform for the next generation of TV to evolve, the same way Android is an open platform for the next generation of mobile.”
