ABC Follow Up Report: Adverts In Men’s Lifestyle Magazines

ABC results for the six-month period ending June 2002 show that the men’s lifestyle sector saw 0.3% year on year drop in circulation (see ABC Jan – Jun 2002 Men’s Lifestyle Magazines). However, figures from Nielsen Media Research indicate that the total number of adverts in men’s lifestyle magazines increased by 12.20% year on year during the same period.

Dennis Publishing’s Men’s Fitness, which saw an 8.1% increase in circulation between January and June 2002, experienced a significant 42.98% year on year rise in the number of ads it hosted during the first half of the year. IFG’s Bizarre also performed well, adding a 25% increase in ads to a healthy a 13.4% year on year rise in circulation.

Amongst the sector’s big names, market leader FHM‘s 17.1% year on year decline in circulation was matched by a 14.42% fall in the number of ads it hosted during the first half of this year. IPC’s Loaded, which experienced a modest 1.2% year on year rise in circulation, also saw a 0.26% year on year rise in the number of adverts within its pages during the six-month period ending June 2002.

ABC results for the first half of 2002 reveal that Cabal Communication’s Front saw a 7.5% year on year decline in circulation. However, the title managed a 16.13% year on year rise in ads during the same period.
