ABC Follow-Up Report: Number Of Adverts In Women’s Weekly Magazines

ABC results for the six-month period ending June 2002 show that the women’s weekly sector saw a 0.7% year on year increase in circulation (see ABC Jan – Jun 2002 Women’s Weekly Titles). However, figures from Nielsen Media Research indicate that the total number of adverts in women’s weekly magazines fell by 10.27% year on year during the same period.

Despite managing a notable 10.4% year on year increase in circulation between January and June 2002, IPC’s Chat saw a 10.48% year on year decline in the number of ads it hosted during the first half of the year. IPC’s Now fared slightly better than its stablemate and added a 3.57% year on year increase in ads to a healthy 10% year on year rise in circulation.

ABC results for the first half of 2002 show that H Bauer’s Take A Break continues to dominate the women’s sector in terms of circulation, with a 3.5% year on year increase to 1,207,384. However, the number of adverts that appeared in the magazine during the same period, was down 15.94% year on year to 385.

IPC’s Woman’s Own, which saw a 3.6% year on year decline in circulation between January and June 2002, experienced the most significant downturn in the number of adverts within its pages. According to Nielsen Media Research, the number of ads slipped 25.74% year on year to 300, down from 404, in the same six-month period the previous year.
