ABC Results Jul-Dec 2007: Mixed Six Months For Teen Sector

Teen Magazines The latest ABC figures, for July to December 2007, show a pretty mixed six months in the teen sector, although there were some healthy circulation increases.

The teen market has been through a turbulent time recently, with the National Magazine Company axing its trial digital magazine Jellyfish (see NatMags Axes Jellyfish After Trial Problems) in June, just after it announced the closure of CosmoGIRL! (see NatMags To Close CosmoGIRL!).

However, the latest figures show that Mizz and Top Of The Pops both enjoyed healthy increases in circulation for the period, up by around 18.5% and 19% respectively.

Panini UK’s Mizz now has a circulation of over 71,000 copies, while Top Of The Pops has a total figure of nearly 125,000.

The top performer in the sector, Sugar, suffered a downturn of around 21.5% over the period, a real term decline of more than 43,000 copies. Its total now rests at over 157,000.

Shout, published by DC Thomson & Co, was up by around 7% year on year and 3% period on period, taking its circulation to nearly 87,000.

Meanwhile, Bliss reported a fall of almost 14.5%, or nearly 22,000 copies in real terms, to leave it with a total of around 130,000.
