Ad Sex Innuendo Rife – Ads Survey

According to findings of the quarterly ATMN survey from Propeller Marketing three different types of sexual innuendo secured the top places in the Ads That Make The News (ATMN). The most written about ads campaign during this quarter was the controversial CK Denim clothes range from Calvin Klein.

Between July and September 1995, the CK Denim ads generated 18 news stories in the pages of the national press. Sainsbury’s ‘Love in the Aisles’ ad came second with 17 stories. Wrangler, in the news because its model Paula Abbott was at that time the new face of Wonderbra, came third with 10 stories. Overall, 124 different campaigns generated a total of 365 news stories in the quarter.

The newspaper most likely to run a news story about an advertisement is Today. Between July and September, Today ran 64 ATMN stories twice as many as the Daily Mirror, which came close second with 32 stories. The Guardian and the Independent tied in third place, each with 29 stories.
