Apple launched its latest iPad at an event in San Francisco yesterday with a high-definition screen, a new A5X chip and improved graphics.
The new iPad features a new display resolution of 2,048 by 1,536 pixels plus a 5-megapixel camera sensor and can run on 4G LTE networks. It is 9.4mm deep – bigger than the iPad2. The basic model will cost £399 and the top of the range model, including 64GB, Wi-Fi and 4G, will cost £659.
The new product is due to go on sale on 16 March in the UK, US, Canada, Germany, France, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and Japan. The previous model will stay on sale at a reduced price – starting at £329.
In 2011, Apple accounted for 62% of the global tablet market, according to IMS Research. Apple is expected to see its share rise to 70% this year. Apple also announced an upgraded TV box, which can now run 1080p video.
