Ask Jeeves Extends Online Ad Portfolio

Online search engine, Ask Jeeves, has added two new products to its advertising portfolio in an attempt to give media planners and buyers greater control over ad targeting.

The new ad platforms, called site submit and index express, will guarantee the inclusion of advertisers’ URLs in the Ask Jeeves search index.

David Graham, head of business development at Ask Jeeves UK, commented: “Thousands of URLs can now be swiftly included into the Ask.co.uk search engine on either an individual campaign or on a more long term basis to deliver highly targeted and measurable consumer traffic directly to a particular page advertising a particular product. The net effect is high conversion rates but low cost of customer acquisition”

The new index express package is aimed at large online retailers and e-commerce websites with greater depth of content and a larger quantity or URLs. Ask Jeeves will develop and manage online campaigns on behalf of advertisers, in a bid to ensure maximum optimisation to drive qualified leads to any number of products and services within the advertiser’s site.

Index express will utilise the cost-per-click pricing model and online marketers can enlist and de-list URLs throughout the campaign.

The site submit format is designed for small businesses and will charge a annual subscription to advertisers wishing to be featured in Ask Jeeves search listings.

Graham added: “The key benefits of site submit are that, as a subscriber, smaller companies and webmasters now have greater control in determining exactly when their web pages will be added to the index and exactly what content they wish to display. Furthermore, the online reporting functionality allows for greater accountability and success measurement.

Search targeted marketing has been a popular area of internet advertising over the past year. However, recent research from WebSideStory suggests search targeted marketing may come under threat as web habits continue to change (see New Research Questions Search Targeted Marketing).
