BBC Launches Top Gear Magazine For Children

BBC Magazines has launched a new title called Top Gear Turbo, for children interested in cars.
The 40-page magazine, produced in association with Scalextric, will cost £1.95 and will launch later this month to coincide with the half term holiday and the start of a new series of the Top Gear on BBC2.
The one-off issue will be positioned alongside other car magazines on the news-stands and will feature a specially bagged poster and a range of car-orientated sticker sheets.
Commenting on the launch, Top Gear‘s publisher, Adam Waddell, said: “Initially the magazine is a one off, but if the marketplace responds as we anticipate it will, Top Gear Turbo could become a regular title very quickly. The magazine will talk to the target audience on its own level, without being patronising. Our research has proved there is a significant number of readers who currently buy an adult car magazine, simply because there is no alternative.”
Earlier this year the BBC revealed its interest in the youth market with the launch of Action Hero magazine for boys aged between four and seven. The title is intended to bridge the gap between unisex pre-school magazines and more advanced titles for older readers (see BBC Eyes Boys Market With Action Launch).
