The BBC is relaunching its mobile site with a design based on the broadcaster’s existing internet site.
Users are able to customise the site’s home page, adding features such as news headlines and weather updates.
The new mobile site – an upgrade of the corporation’s seven year old technology – will also include more video and audio content.
Richard Titus, FM controller of audio, music and mobile for the BBC, told newmediaage: “We’re at the beginning of the journey to make mobile browsing more personal. It’s a pretty substantial service. Mobile is even more personal to you than the website – you want to make it more yours.”
Titus added that the BBC plans to increase distribution of the iPlayer via deals with handset manufacturers and operators.
He said: “The goal is to make one-touch access to BBC services from wherever the audience is… we aren’t in any app stores yet but it makes sense for the BBC to be there.”
