BBC Three’s Superstar Vloggers sees 31% of viewers tweeting

Yesterday saw a brand new month kick off a season of the same old programming with Monday’s prime time hits almost indistinguishable from January’s offerings.

Like clockwork Silent Witness continued on BBC One, with the penultimate episode of the 19th series cracking open one last case of OTT grimness and gore.

The 9pm slot’s biggest audience tuned in for the latest bout of body-poking thrills as our team of fresh-faced – but slightly haunted – forensic types were forced to sift through the pieces of a family shot-up while enjoying a picturesque picnic.

5.8 million viewers watched as former Play School compère Derek Griffiths guest starred as one of them haunted-by-the-past detective types, leading to a healthy 26% share for the long-running show.

At the same time, ITV offered up horror of a different kind as the eighth series of Benidorm continued its trend of losing viewers after last week’s slight upturn.

3.8 million viewers caught up with the latest all-inclusive old school fun from the Solana Hotel, with last night’s hilarity seeing Johnny Vegas’s Geoff stage an intervention for booze hound sister Pauline (Selina Griffiths), netting a 17% share for the commercial broadcaster.

Over on Channel 4, the fifth series of The Undateables (9pm) came to an end with a wedding special, focusing on former guests who were preparing to tie the knot.

Featuring a much higher success rate than even Cilla Black could manage in her 18-year matchmaking career, the final episode in the current run brought in 1.3 million viewers and a 6% share.

At the same time, BBC Two was mashing up some educational history with some biting drama in Bloody Queens: Elizabeth and Mary at 9pm.

An audience of 1.3 million viewers tuned in to see two actresses read out highlights from two decades’ worth of letters between the two royals, with historians helping viewers read between the lines of the quickly souring relationship, resulting in a 6% share.

Meanwhile, BBC Three was focusing on the current phenomenon of those millionaire, teenage, one-person army of advertising that is the Rise of the Superstar Vloggers (9pm). [advert position=”left”]

174,000 tuned in to see the preppy young YouTubers attempting to convince viewers they were anything but irritating marketing droids, resulting in a minute 0.8% share, but inspiring a whopping 31% of those watching to tweet.

On Channel 5 at 9pm, Celebrity Big Brother bagged 1.9 million viewers and a 9% share.

Earlier in the day, The One Show: A Tribute to Sir Terry (BBC One, 7pm) bagged 5.8 million viewers and a 27% share while at the same time on ITV, Emmerdale was watched by 6.2 million viewers and a 30% share.

Afterwards, the first Coronation Street (ITV) of the day bagged Monday’s top spot at 7:30pm, with 7.3 million viewers (a 33% share) followed by 7 million viewers (a 31% share) at 8:30pm.

BBC One’s EastEnders took the third spot at 8pm, with scenes of Ronnie Mitchell’s life getting even more rubbish helping bring in 6.9 million viewers and a 31% share.
