Beckman Follows BBC Radio Five Live Colleagues To LBC

Jenny Beckman has become the latest senior figure to join Chrysalis-owned LBC from BBC Radio Five Live.

Beckman, who joins LBC as marketing controller later this month, will work with Chrysalis radio’s marketing director, Steve Parkinson, to rebrand and relaunch the station on the more popular FM wavelength.

She follows Five Live’s deputy controller, Steve Kyte, who joined LBC as editorial director last month (see LBC Sets Its Sights On London With New Signing) and weekend news reader, Caroline Feraday, who recently confirmed her intention to join the London-based news station as a daytime presenter in the New Year (see LBC Boosts London Offering With New Signing).

During her time at the BBC, Beckman oversaw several flagship projects across Five Live, BBCi and BBC News. She also implemented the recent Five Live marketing campaign, which used TV, outdoor and online activity to promote the station’s output. Prior to joining the BBC, Beckman worked at Abbott Mead Vickers, where she handled above-the-line campaigns for leading consumer brands including Snickers and Yellow Pages.

Commenting on her appointment, Beckman said: “I have always enjoyed working in the broadcast industry, especially in radio. LBC is an exciting brand and with the line-up of on-air talent that’s in place, I look forward to making the station bigger and better than ever.”

Chrysalis acquired London News Radio, which encompasses the LBC and NewsDirect radio brands, earlier this year in a bid to strengthen its audience share in the key London market (see LBC Boosts London Offering With New Signing). According to the latest RAJAR data for the third quarter of 2002, LBC has seen its weekly reach increase by 16.2% year on year to 480,000, up from 413,000 in the same period the previous year.
