BlowUp Media Launches Airline Campaign
![]()
BlowUp Media has signed its first airline advertiser since the events of 11 September caused big-budget flight operators to withdraw from the medium.
The “Flights to the Sun” campaign for AirFrance launches this month and features Blow Up’s 800 metre square poster at the City Gateway site in London. The campaign, which was bought by French media agency Mediakeys, will also run in Germany and Switzerland.
A spokesperson for BlowUp Media said: “The atrocities in America caused a lot of airlines to pull their campaigns immediately and the consequent slump in airline bookings combined with the general advertising downturn have meant that they’ve stayed away. It’s still early days but we’re confident that the high-profile airlines will return.”
BlowUp is launching a series of initiatives to attract lucrative airline business including reduced fees on any space booked before the end of the year.
The spokesperson added: “The market is very competitive at the moment and big seems to be very much in vogue. The impact of a giant media is so great that nearly every time it is used it makes headlines. The downside is that the medium is still in its infancy and advertisers still regard it a something of a luxury, but this is changing rapidly.”
The outdoor industry has been enjoying a period of growth recently, with advertisers shifting away from TV towards other mediums (see Ad Revenue On The Up For Outdoor). The sector saw ad revenue rise in the first half of this year and the Outdoor Advertising Association predicts that Q3 results will show that the medium is performing better than the rest of the industry (see First Half Revenue Rises For Outdoor).
