BSkyB And Yahoo! Form UK Marketing Alliance

Portal website operator, Yahoo! UK & Ireland, has teamed up with satellite broadcaster BSkyB to create a UK marketing alliance that will span all of Sky’s TV operations and Yahoo’s web pages.
The deal will see the companies using each other’s media to promote their services. Iliane van Ees, marketing manager at Yahoo! UK and Ireland, told Newsline: “Both companies have the objective of reaching people and both are media owners. This deal is a great opportunity for Yahoo! to reach an audience through Sky’s satellite television and Yahoo! offers Sky the same ability through online.”
Ian West, managing director of Sky Entertainment, says the two companies will ‘explore new and innovative ways to expand the reach and generate further awareness’ of their respective media offerings.
Today’s agreement extends a relationship between Yahoo! and News Corp., 40% owner of BSkyB, established in the US earlier this year. Rupert Murdoch, owner of News Corp., recently announced his intentions to take the media empire onto the internet (see News Corporation Invests In Internet Partnership).
