BT TV Services Ban To Stay
Speaking on The Money Programme last night, Michael Heseltine confirmed that the ban forbidding BT to offer video-on-demand and home shopping on an electronic superhighway would not end early.
” I’ve made it absolutely clear we will not break the government’s word. There is effectively a commercial, contractural relationship upon which people have invested millions of pounds” (the cable companies).”You cannot then turn round and say: “I’m sorry the government’s changed its mind.”
The ten-year ban was imposed in 1991. Mr Heseltine’s statement comes at the same time as BT announces Video-on-Demand trials (Newsline last week).
