Channel 5 will be revamping its news output by creating a new half-hour midday programme and moving its evening bulletin from 8.30pm to 7.00pm. The changes begin on January 5.
Channel 5 claims that 41% of 5 News‘s viewers are aged between 16 and 44 compared to 35% for the BBC’s Nine O’Clock News, 34% for Channel 4 News and 30% for ITV’s News At Ten. 5 hopes to carry this younger audience over into an 8.30pm slot which will be used to schedule new entertainment, popular factual and feature programmes.
