Capital Gold Launches Biggest Ever DAB Digital Promotion

Capital Gold is launching what it claims to be the biggest ever promotion for DAB Digital radio, in an attempt to raise awareness of its digital network.
From the beginning of March the group is to run an eight week campaign across its network to give away more than 100 digital radios.
Every day a Capital Gold DJ will be present two competition winners with digital radios in their work place in an attempt to raise awareness of the Capital Gold digital network.
Capital Gold managing director, Lyn Long said: “Digital radio is a very important part of Capital Gold’s future, and we believe that it is crucial to promote the great listening experience to our audience currently tuning in on AM. This promotion will help to show our audience of the benefits of digital radio in a simple and accessible way through on-air and on-line explanation and promotion.”
The Digital Radio Development Bureau’s chief executive, Ian Dickens, added: “This is a perfect example of how a radio network can promote an improved listening experience for its analogue audience, and, at the same time, help to increase consumer awareness of DAB as a generic medium.”
The Capital Gold Network covers Kent, Hampshire, Sussex, South Wales, Birmingham and Manchester and also broadcasts across five DAB digital simulcast stations.
According to the latest RAJAR data for the three month period ending December 2002, Capital Gold’s flagship London station has increased its weekly reach by 0.7% year on year to 1,211,000, up from 1,203,000 in the same period in 2001.
Earlier this month, Capital Gold secured Telewest as the sponsor of its new breakfast show, in a deal which also includes sponsorship of Capital’s 100-102 Century FM in Newcastle and 96.4 BRMB in Birmingham (see Capital Gold Secures Telewest For Breakfast Sponsorship).
