Capital Secures Vodafone For Premiership Sponsorship

Capital has secured Vodafone to sponsor all its Premiership match commentary across its Capital Gold Manchester and 105.4 Century FM stations.

The half a million pound deal will kick off on 16 August and is based around Vodafone’s position as the official sponsor of Manchester United Football Club. It is hoped by sponsoring the Manchester based stations the brand will successfully connect with the local audience of football fans.

The sponsorship campaign will feature a number of interactive promotions, which will encourage listeners to predict the scores of important Manchester United games via text message.

There will also be a special Vodafone voicemail service which will allow supporters to leave messages about issues surrounding the games. These issues will be used to kick off discussions in the stations phone-in shows.

Commenting on the deal, Jonathan Gillespie, head of radio at OMD Affinity, which negotiated the deal on behalf of Vodafone, said: “The Vodafone – Century 105.4 and Capital Gold Manchester relationship continues to be an important driver at a local fan base level. It brings the Manchester United relationship into sharp focus and delivers real value back to listeners, with promotional benefits and ticket give-aways.”

Capital Radio recently appointed Jane Bardsley as its new head of commercial marketing, following the recent restructure of its senior management team (see Capital Radio Appoints New Head Of Commercial Marketing).
