Carlton Profit Up 30% Carlton Communications has today released results for the year ended 30 September 1995; pre-tax profits were up by 30% to £246.7m. The Broadcast Television Division accounts for 49% of their total operating profits, up from 7% two years ago.

The new combined Carlton/Central has been a success for the company, with sales in the television division increasing by 35%, and operating profits by 72%. Ad revenue was buoyant; market share was maintained in the Midlands and was increased in London. There was increased spending from major brands, from areas of supermarkets, telecommunications and financial services; new advertisers included the National Lottery, pools and Channel Tunnel.

Michael Green, chairman, said that Carlton now spends some £160m each year on new programmes, “This investment will remain the main driving force of our Broadcast Television division; the multiplicity of entertainment channels that will be available to viewers means that demand for programme material will grow substantially. We intend to be a major owner and supplier of copyright television material.”
