Carlton Threatens To Sell Stake In Meridian

Carlton Communications has warned Lord Hollick of MAI, owner of Meridian, that Carlton’s 20% stake in Meridian will be sold unless minority shareholders get a better deal. Carlton is angry at plans for Anglia Television, recently bought by MAI. Although Anglia is planned to be integrated with Meridian, all the benefits will go to MAI, as Anglia will be a wholly owned subsidiary.

BSKYB PAYS OUT TO GRANADA

Granada group should receive its share of debt repayment from BSkyB by the end of the summer. Granada group has a 13.5% stake and should receive up to £70m.

NBC INTEREST IN CHANNEL 5

NBC, the US network television broadcaster, is interested in applying to run Channel 5. By law the US company could not control the channel, but it is looking for potential UK partners, including national newspaper groups.
