Speculation that Carlton Communications is in talks with Midland Independent Newspapers regarding a possible merger appear to be unfounded.
Midland Independent Newspapers, publisher of the Birmingham Post and the Coventry Evening Telegraph, would undoubtedly provide a suitable fit with Carlton’s Central TV in terms of geography, news coverage and possibly ad sales, but a spokesman for Carlton said officially there was “no comment” regarding a takeover. Unofficially he poured cold water on the idea.
