CARWEEK – FIRST ISSUE REPORT
The latest motoring magazine Carweek from EMAP launches today with an initial print run of 300,000.
Carweek is made up of two sections, the outer full of features and news and the inner a guide to buying and selling new and used cars. With both sections having similar pagination (the outer section has 56 pages and the inner 60 pages) Carweek is trying to fill the gap in the market for one single publication which covers both features and classified ads fully.
Although Auto Trader (Jan-Jun 93 ABC of 417,000) is primarily a classified title, it has a second section of news and features. Auto Express, which is primarily an editorial based title has recently added a second section, a car buyers guide, in direct response to the launch of Carweek.
The editorial in the first issue carries features on Damon Hill, the new Rover Coupe, and the Ferrari 348 as well as articles on new cars launching, a news section and letters page. It is full of photographs and “scoops” on new car designs.
The second section, as well as being a guide to the new and used car market, also carries 6 pages of editorial on the buying and selling of cars. The weekly has a cover price of £1. In the first issue, the outer section has 17 pages out of 56 carrying adverts. Major advertisers in this issue are all for cars or car products, and include Peugeot, Fiat, Mobil, Ford and Nissan.
The outer section is in full colour on non-glossy paper. The inner classified section is in FT style pink paper. Unlike the other motoring magazines, Carweek is larger than A4 in a tabloid format.
