Children’s Radio Station To Bid For London Licence

Children’s Radio Station To Bid For London Licence

It is reported in today’s FT that one of the bidders for the final London FM commercial radio licence is to be for a children’s station.

Nigel Wray, the millionaire behind the Trocadero leisure centre, who owns the rights to Noddy and all the Enid Blyton characters is believed to be preparing an application. The radio station would be aimed at children aged between two and twelve, and would include Noddy and Big Ears as part of the schedule.

Children are not currently well catered for on radio, but whilst it is in the Radio Authority’s remit to broaden listeners’ choice, there are plenty of other contenders for London’s last FM station. Other bidders are believed to be Capital Gold, Time Out, Saga, Choice FM and XFM. Time Out Applies For London FM Licence

All applications have to be in by July 9th, with the winner announced three months later.
