Condé Nast To Keep Glamour Cheap
![]()
Condé Nast has made a long term commitment to Glamour‘s success in the women’s magazine market by guaranteeing that the title’s cover price remains below that of its competitors for the next five years.
After Glamour‘s impressive performance in the latest ABC consumer magazine results (see Glamour Makes Stunning 450,000 ABC Debut), the handbag sized title shot to the top end of the market to sit just behind Cosmopolitan with a circulation of 451,486.
Glamour‘s publisher Simon Kippen said today: “It’s part of our strategy to go back to the consumer and think about what she wants. Obviously the size and the content of the magazine come into the equation but we believe that the price is a big selling point. We are not guaranteeing that it will stay at £1.50, but we will ensure that the price remains at a very attractive level.”
Kippen also said that he was thrilled with the performance of the magazine, which smashed its original target of 250,000 and explained that: “Launching Glamour was not about stealing readers from Cosmopolitan or any other titles, but about bringing new readers into the market with a high quality product.”
He admitted that he expected circulation figures to “settle down” and revealed that Condé Nast have raised their predictions for the next set of ABC results from 200,000 to 300,000.
